Another beauty.

Rated 4 stars because I didn't jump as much as I would like but otherwise fantastic. Winter solstice sailing ! Durban rocks.

Beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky. Sea was a bit rough on the Northern beaches (tried for a surf earlier and got a bit thumped) but Vetch's was flat due to the lowish tide and protection of the reef.

Hal rigged 6.5, I rigged 7.0, gareth 5.2. 5.7/5.8 would probably have been about right but both Hal's and my smalls were torn and Gareth had damaged his big. So it was necessity really.

Turned out Hal and I were a little over-powered at times but much closer to the ideal than Gareth who struggled for power. He had some good runs but you need a little more power in onshore conditions.

My gybes have come on. Didn't plane through them all but missed very few. Must have nailed in the region of 90% of them. Loving the gybes on swell and if I judge it right, am able to gybe and then have a neat wave ride on the next tack as I head away from the North breakwater. Superb.

Had some nice wave rides near the breakwater. Am learning to time my approach to co-incide with a swell. One was so steep I chickened out of the gybe and just backed over the top of it for a wet-gybe.

Jumps were mostly small as the best ones were to be had heading North from the breakwater but usually hadn't got up enough speed by then and also on a starboard tack which is not my preferred one for jumping. Wind angle was not quite right for port tack jumps but where I was jumping the landings have improved and I seem to be controlling spin-out better.

Eventually the boom snapped but that was ok. It was a repair job that has been waiting to go for about 4 sessions and I was pretty much finished by then anyway. Sailed back on the other side of the boom and called it a day. Fantastic. Feel great.

Only a couple of others out apart from the 3 of us. Quite good sailors, though, doing some nice jumps & gybing. Hal had some awesome runs but will have to get his gybe rate up if he is not to exhaust himself in the surf. Was doing some rather hedonistic reaching and wave riding on the starboard tacks.

Sea was fantastic. Just the right temperature. Refreshing and pleasant.

Ahhh, the monster is temporarily sated.
